A just-published study says LSU's economic impact on Louisiana is in the billions of dollars.
The report places the figure at $5.1 billion last year and that doesn't include the revenue created by the university's sports programs.
LSU President F. Alexander King was in Shreveport Monday and noted a spike in enrollment and accepted the challenge to keep medical students in Louisiana, a state that ranks near or at the bottom nationwide in categories that include infectious disease, cancer and cardio deaths.
