Special Session On Budget To Begin Next Monday

Louisiana State Capitol

Louisiana lawmakers will be gathering at the state capitol one week from today for a special session that will deal with a budget mess created earlier by temporary taxes that will expire June 30th.

Governor John Bel Edwards issued the call on Friday even though there's no clear plan in place on how the legislature will resolve the expected $1 billion shortfall in revenue needed to avoid dramatic cuts in services.

Lawmakers will have until March 7th to find common ground on needed tax hikes to cover the projected red ink.
