The revelry of the Mardi Gras season is over and the relative quietness of the Lenten season has begun, and nowhere is that more noticeable than in New Orleans.
Fat Tuesday celebrations in the Big Easy brought out tens of thousands of residents and visitors to the city for a final blast of parades and elbow-to-elbow crowds in the French Quarter.
The New Orleans Police mounted patrol and other officers on foot ended the partying at midnight with the traditional sweep of Bourbon Street.
