State lawmakers are entering the first full day of the special legislative session called by Governor John Bel Edwards to tackle the projected $1 billion shortfall in the budget.

In his opening remarks, Edwards implored members of the House and the Senate to think like Louisianans, not just as Democrats or Republicans.

The massive red-ink fiscal forecast comes with the expiration of temporary tax measures this summer.
