(WVUE/FOX 8) Authorities are investigating a sunken tugboat on the Mississippi River Monday. According to the Louisiana Maritime Association, the vessel sank at General Anchorage.
The Lower Mississippi River is closed in the Algiers Point area, according to LMA officials. The vessel sank across from the Chalmette slip.
According to a report by our partners NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, the Coast Guard is assisting in a search for two people who were on the tugboat.
Three people were in the river in the Chalmette area near mile-marker 90.5, the spokeswoman told NOLA.com. One was rescued shortly after but the other two are still missing as of 11:15 a.m, according to the report.
