There's a flood warning going into effect for the metro New Orleans area. That's because of melting snow up north and earlier heavy rains that are continuing to push the Mississippi River higher.

Forecasters say flood stage, which is a water level of 17 feet or higher, is expected to be reached today at the Carrolton gauge.

The National Weather Service says the increase in the water levels will make for difficult navigation and docking along the river.
