Bills paving the way for teachers and school employees to be armed while on campus are not making any headway just yet in the Louisiana Legislature.

Legislation has been drawn up or is being drafted by several lawmakers, including Representative Rodgers Pope, a Republican from Denham Springs.

School boards would have the final say on the matter, and those arming themselves would need a concealed carry permit and eight hours of specialized training annually.
