Higher Age Requirement For Assault Rifle Purchases Dead

An effort to hike the legal age for purchasing an assault rifle in Louisiana gets shot down in the state Senate.

Senator Troy Carter's bill proposed that the age be increased from 18 to 21, but his senate colleagues voted 26-9 to kill the legislation.

Carter told the chamber that he is a gun enthusiast but considers assault rifles "weapons of mass destruction."
