There's a bill moving through the legislature that would bar drivers from handling a phone while behind the wheel, except in emergency situations.

The proposal authored by Representative Mike Huval of Breaux Bridge is yet another move to take a bite out of distracted driving. In most cases, a driver could be fined $125 or even have their license suspended if caught holding the phone for a call, while texting or using social media.

The bill is headed to the full House for consideration.
