State Senate Approves Law Banning Sex With Animals

A bill that explicitly bans sex with animals has cleared the Louisiana Senate.

Under the proposal from Democrat J.P. Morrell, anyone convicted of bestiality would face jail time and would be barred from owning any pets in the future.

A Louisiana law covering so-called "crimes against nature" included bestiality but was ruled unconstitutional in 2003 because it also included certain sexual acts between consenting adults.

Ten Republicans voted against the new bill, arguing that another law involving the subject was not needed.
