The Louisiana House is giving a thumbs-down to proposed increases in state hunting and fishing license fees.
The bill required two-thirds approval to pass but was 16 votes short Monday. The agency sought the increases after losing $65 million over the past nine years due to the state's budget problems.
If the legislation had been approved, a basic annual fishing license would have gone up four dollars and a hunting license five dollars.
