The House Education Committee is sending a bill to the full House that would require all public schools in the state to provide 30 minutes of recess time each day.
The vote by the panel yesterday was 8-5.
The sponsor of the bill and its supporters say the half-hour break from the classroom would improve a student's classroom performance, and among other things, improve social skills and reduce anxiety.
Some districts in the state offer no recess time.
