Operators of Harrah's New Orleans casino are hoping for a favorable legislative committee vote today as they seek a no-bid, 30-year contract extension.
While the current agreement doesn't expire until 2024, the extension comes with promises by operators to invest $350 million in a new hotel and other attractions.
However, Senator J.P. Morrell from New Orleans says the contract matter has become a distraction to the state's impending fiscal cliff of nearly $700 million and that he'll vote against the bill today.
