More Restrictive State Ban On Abortions Nears Passage

One more legislative step and the governor's signature will lead to a ban on abortions in Louisiana after 15 weeks into a pregnancy.

Senate Bill 181 cleared the House chamber Tuesday on a 78-9 vote. But, even if the bill is signed into law, it won't take effect until a federal court decides the fate of similarly restrictive legislation in Mississippi.

Currently, abortions in Louisiana are prohibited after a 20-week pregnancy.
