Time is running out for state lawmakers to approve a 2018-2019 fiscal year budget for Louisiana.
A special session on the matter will gavel to a close Monday whether it's approved or not. The full House is expected to debate a proposed budget today that includes cuts of $30 million to both TOPS and higher education programs, and a $90 million rollback in health department-related spending.
Thus far, more than half of a projected $650 million revenue shortfall come July 1st is being plugged with part of an expiring one-cent sales tax.
