Legislator To Refuse Pay During Next Special Session

Louisiana State Capitol

At least one Louisiana lawmaker, and perhaps more will follow, won't be accepting a pay check for work during the next special legislative session.

She's Democratic State Representative Malinda White of Bogalusa who says the legislature's failure to fund a new budget shouldn't cost taxpayers more.

A second special session on the budget ended in failure late Monday night at a cost of about $50,000 a day to taxpayers.

Governor Edwards is expected to issue a call soon for a third special session ahead of the July 1st start of the new budget year.
