Kennedy Proposes To Cover Loss Of State's Food Stamp Program

Runoff Election Held In Louisiana For State's Senate Seat

Republican U.S. Senator John Kennedy is prepared to offer up federal legislation that would be needed for the state's food stamp program if Louisiana can't resolve its budget woes by July 1st.

He told reporters this week that he would seek funding from the Department of Agriculture and go directly to President Trump if necessary.

The state is facing a shortfall of $650 million if additional tax measures aren't adopted to replace temporary taxes that expire in just over two weeks.
