New Orleans Archdiocese Settles Rape Claims

A lawsuit filed earlier this year against the Archdiocese of New Orleans has been resolved with the payout of $500,000.

The New Orleans Advocate reports the settlement was reached earlier this month in a case that alleged an altar boy was repeatedly raped three decades ago by George Brignac, a longtime deacon and teacher, and the diocese failed to intervene.

The sexual assaults are said to have occurred beginning in 1979 when the child was eight and continued for at least three years.
