Essence Fest is a big deal for New Orleans, and proved it once again during this year's four-day run that ended Sunday night.
Officials say more than 510,000 people turned out for the event this year, about 40,000 shy of the record set in 2014 and close to 40,000 more than last year.
All three concert nights were sellouts, including Sunday's that closed with a performance by Janet Jackson.
