Authorities at the Audubon Zoo say the animal death toll resulting from the escape of a Jaguar from its enclosure Saturday now stands at nine.
Five alpaca, three foxes and an emu have died as a result of injuries suffered when the jaguar escaped from its enclosure.
No human injuries were reported.
Zoo officials say the escape was not a result of an error by the jaguar's keeper. The enclosure's roof was compromised and the jaguar was captured an hour after it escaped.
This continues to be a sad time for the Audubon family. We appreciate the continued overwhelming support from the community. If you wish to drop off items to share condolences with our staff, please bring them to the front entrance of the Zoo. pic.twitter.com/w6NNthBaSj— Audubon Institute (@AudubonNature) July 15, 2018
