State health officials announced Wednesday the confirmed number of human West Nile virus cases in Louisiana now stands at six and involves people in five parishes.
One of the cases, a victim in St. Tammany Parish, contracted the neuro-invasive form of the mosquito-borne disease that can prove deadly.
Two West Nile cases were discovered in East Baton Rouge Parish.
