New Orleans Cops Facing Possible Termination After Fight

Two rookie New Orleans cops are facing possible termination after an internal investigation found they were the aggressors in a fight that left a civilian with serious head and face injuries.

The firing of John Galman and Spencer Sutton could be completed as early as today.

Both are charged with simple battery after an off-duty encounter early Tuesday morning with a man at a Mid-City bar, the officers allegedly objecting to the camouflage-like clothing George Gomez was wearing and prior military service.

“After gathering multiple video accounts and eyewitness statements, the evidence collected by our PIB investigators clearly demonstrates that our officers were the aggressors in this incident,” NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said. “Members of our department are expected to comply with the law and adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct, whether on- or off-duty. The swift pace at which the Public Integrity Bureau investigated this incident and the decisive actions taken by the NOPD (Tuesday) by arresting the officers and starting the termination process clearly demonstrate how seriously our department views their actions.”
