Five people are now under federal indictment after being charged by a grand jury Thursday with multiple crimes, including attempted sex trafficking, related to the abuse of an autistic woman.

The 22-year-old victim, publicly identified only by the initials D.P., was held captive for a year in Tangipahoa Parish. When deputies found her in June 2016, she was being kept in a six-by-eight-foot chicken-wire cage outside a home in Amite.

The New Orleans Advocate reports she was subjected to numerous beatings and forced to eat dog feces and her mother's ashes.
