Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana is pressing for passage of a Farm Bill that includes a work requirement for food stamp recipients.

Proposed legislation in the House mandates that those between 18 and 59 who aren't disabled and don't have children under six work at least 20 hours a week.

However, a Senate version of the Farm Bill doesn't have a work requirement.

“Government assistance was designed to be an off-ramp to help people leave poverty in their tracks, but it’s become a parking lot,” said Kennedy.
