Already wallet-draining gas prices in the Pelican State are climbing higher.

According to Triple-A, the average price of regular in Louisiana is inching toward $2.62 a gallon.  The fuel is costing drivers about two cents more than last Friday and is about 48 cents higher compared to the year-ago average price.

Experts say that demand for gasoline in the U.S. is at a near-record high.
