At least three families living at a multiple-unit apartment building located in the Algiers section of New Orleans are down on their luck following a two-alarm fire.

For reasons still under investigation, the blaze erupted shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday at a two-story four-plex on Tullis Drive. Police say the fire apparently started in a vacant apartment and then spread.

A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.
