Body Of Missing Metairie Man Recovered Near Spillway

The search ends tragically for a Metairie man who went missing in the area of the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. Charles Parish just over a week ago.

Authorities had been looking for 61-year-old Clarence Schlamp ever since his vehicle and campsite were located in the same area with a note saying he had gone for a hike and would return.

He didn't, and the sheriff says it appears from the evidence that Schlamp, whose body was found Sunday in a remote wooded area near the spillway, had taken his own life.

“I would like to thank all of our deputies who have spent so much time in difficult and brutally miserable conditions searching for Mr. Schlamp. Our thanks also go out to the United Cajun Navy volunteers along with the Patriot Emergency Response Team who happened to be attending training here in South Louisiana and so graciously offered their assistance. Finally, we offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Clarence Schlamp,” said St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne.
