West Nile virus is sickening more people in Louisiana than in any other state.
State health officials are out with figures that show that at least 53 confirmed human cases of the mosquito-transmitted disease had been recorded as of August 11th, more than twice as many compared to the same period last year.
Thirty-one patients were found to have the sometimes fatal neuroinvasive form of the virus that infects the brain and spinal cord.
There have been at least two deaths this year.
