New Orleans is preparing for the worst but not really expecting to get it from Tropical Storm Gordon.

Gordon was barreling towards the central Gulf Coast overnight with maximum sustained winds near 65 miles per hour and forecast to possibly make landfall as a Cat 1 hurricane late today along the Mississippi Coast.

Nonetheless, Mayor LaToya Cantrell declared a state of emergency for the Big Easy Monday, hours after Governor Edwards issued a state of emergency declaration for the entire state.

Hundreds of National Guard troops are being dispatched to Southeast Louisiana to help out where needed.
