Phase Two Of Bourbon Street Reconstruction Beginning Today

Phase Two of the reconstruction of an eight-block stretch of Bourbon Street gets underway today in the French Quarter.

The first phase that covered the 100 through 400 blocks of the internationally known roadway suffered from cost overruns, delays and quite a few unhappy business owners and visitors.

The Mayor's Office is promising a more well-coordinated approach for blocks 500 through 800 so that it will impact only one block at a time and impose financial penalties if construction work isn't completed on schedule.

The work for the entire eight-block project is expected to cost the city $20 million.
