There are accusations of excessive spending in a report issued Monday by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office probing the finances of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra.
The audit covers a six-year period beginning in 2009. It accuses New Orleans trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, his business partner Ronald Markham and others of misusing the organization's funds to pay out more than $179,000 on five-star hotels, flights and bar tabs.
Both Mayfield and Markham are awaiting an April 2019 trial on federal wire fraud and money laundering charges.
