Drew Brees became the NFL's all-time passing yards leader as the Saints crushed the Redskins 43-19 on Monday Night Football in New Orleans.
Brees was 26-of-29 for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He passed Peyton Manning for first all-time with a 62-yard touchdown pass to Tre'Quan Smith in the second quarter.
"So, when we trot out there for the two-minute drive, I knew we were within striking distance, didn't know it was going to happen on the first play to Tre'Quan," Brees laughed when talking to reporters after the game. "But I don't think it could've happened in any better fashion than it did."
"On that particular play, I didn't expect to get the ball," said Smith, who finished with three catches for 111 yards and two scores as New Orleans won its fourth straight game. "So I wasn't expecting it, and when I seen it coming to me, I did everything I could just to catch it and not drop it."
Mark Ingram returned from a four-game suspension and rushed for two touchdowns in the win.
"With us being able to win, in a night where a significant record was broken, that makes it that much more special," said Saints head coach Sean Payton.
Kapri Bibbs and Alex Smith ran for touchdowns as Washington fell to 2-and-2. Adrian Peterson suffered an apparent dislocated shoulder in the loss. He had just six yards on four carries.
