A new proposal is looking to give intoxicated people a safe place to go to sober up.

The proposed short-term sobriety center would have 20 beds and could serve up to 80 people per day under the care of a team from Odessey House. The facility would prevent people from passing out on the street or in a jail cell until they've sobered up.

The proposed location would be on North Claiborne Avenue, less than a mile from the French Quarter. People would only be able to enter the center if they don't have active warrants out for their arrest.
