Circle Food Store in Treme is on the brink of closing.
The historic store opened in 1938, but was temporarily closed for four years following Hurricane Katrina. After an $8 million renovation thanks to bank loans, tax credits and city-provided grants, Circle Food Store was able to re-open four years ago.
Debt is now plaguing the business and the family is in a dispute with each other over embezzlement claims.
The owner says at this point, it might be impossible to keep the doors open.
