Moving Freight Train at Railroad Crossing

The University of New Orleans will play a major role in the future of the state's rail transportation.

UNO has been awarded a $150,000 research grant from the Louisiana Transportation Research Center to analyze passenger and freight rail systems. The study will help determine where authorities should focus on mitigating safety concerns and rail traffic congestion.

Louisiana's rail system covers over 2,700 miles and is operated by six large railroads and 14 smaller railroads.
