Two attorneys are suing the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Salesian Order alleging the involvement of priests in the sexual abuse of children at two former orphanages in the area.
The legal action was filed in Orleans Parish Civil District Court Tuesday and contends the four unnamed victims were children when they were abused in the 70s and 80s at Hope Haven and Madonna Manor in Marrero.
The suit claims that in 2009 the Archdiocese of New Orleans settled 20 sex abuse cases at the orphanages for $5 million, the incidents involving 17 abusers.
