A lot of money is being allocated from the Day 1 Families Fund set up by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to help the homeless in South Louisiana.

$5 million was awarded yesterday to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, part of more than $97 million being distributed by the fund to 24 nonprofits in 16 states.

Catholic Charities CEO Sister Marjorie Hebert says the grant will allow the organization to continue to serve hundreds of people in the New Orleans area who don't have a place to live.
