DOJ Sues St. Bernard Parish, Alleges Housing Discrimination

St. Bernard Parish is the target of a lawsuit filed yesterday by the U.S. Justice Department.

It alleges parish officials have discriminated against people with disabilities in violation of the Fair Housing Act.

The suit claims the law was broken when the parish, as the result of it zoning ordinance, blocked the opening of two group homes for disabled children even though state licensing requirements had been met.
