JPSO Deputy Shot, Suspect Runs

Jefferson Parish authorities are investigating the late Sunday night shooting of a deputy in Metairie who had responded to a disturbance call.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto says he was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of wounds to his elbow and leg, with his current condition unknown, though he is expected to recover.

It happened along Veterans Memorial Boulevard in or near the parking lot of the Wyndham Garden Hotel.

The suspect is described as being five-foot-nine, 200 pounds, with facial tattoos and who, at last report, was still on the run.
