(WVUE/FOX 8) A man accused of shooting a Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputy Sunday has been arrested.
Tyronne Louis, 38, was taken into custody Tuesday around 7:15 a.m. after a Crimestoppers tip came in.
According to Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, Louis was waiting at a bus station where he believes he was waiting for an opportunity to get out of town.
He was taken into custody with the help of the US Marshalls in the 1000 block of Loyola Avenue.
Louis is being charged with attempted first degree murder, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, obstruction of justice, domestic abuse battery, aggravated assault, and as a fugitive from probation and parole.
The domestic abuse battery and aggravated assault charges are related to the incident that deputies were investigating at the hotel the night of the shooting, according to Lopinto. The victim in that instance was the 37-year-old girlfriend of Louis.
Louis is accused of shooting Deputy Christopher “Charlie” Haislup multiple times Sunday night in the parking lot of the Wyndham Garden Hotel in the 6400 block of Veterans Boulevard after police were called there to respond to an argument.
Louis has a criminal history that includes arrests in New Orleans for simple robbery and armed robbery. He pleaded guilty in 2005 to shooting his girlfriend’s brother-in-law. A judge sentenced Louis to 15 years in prison.
