Audit Questions Millions Spent By State Police, DPS In New Orleans

New Orleans, Louisiana Downtown Skyline

A report released Wednesday by the Legislative Auditor's Office is questioning the spending of millions of dollars by Louisiana State Police and the Department of Public Safety on security in New Orleans.

Officials with the agencies say the $2.4 million was to cover fuel costs. The audit states the claimed expenditure lacked documentation that the money was spent for that purpose.

However, LSP says the costs were initially absorbed in the department's general fund due to a delay in funding and that there was no misuse of funds.
