New Orleans students may get to add a layer of protection soon through the wearing of bulletproof backpacks.
The Orleans Parish School Board will vote on the option tomorrow after it won committee approval yesterday.
Up until Governor John Bel Edwards signed a law earlier this year, bulletproof backpacks were banned in the state. The legislature reversed the ban following the deadly Valentine's Day massacre at a Parkland, Florida high school.
