Steve Gleason, the former seven-season New Orleans Saints player who continues his battle with ALS, will be receiving the nation's highest civilian honor that Congress can give next year.
Congress has approved bipartisan legislation that will honor Gleason with the Congressional Gold Medal.
U.S. Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana says Gleason has inspired us as a Saint, as a leading voice in the fight against ALS, a paralyzing neurological disease, and with his foundation Team Gleason.
