New Orleans is ending 2018 with only 145 murders, following a national trend of falling homicide rates.
That's the fewest number of murders in the Big Easy since the early 1970s. It also marks the second consecutive year there's been a decline in the number of murders in New Orleans.
NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison believes the drop in killings and other violent crime is the result of a more efficient department thanks to new technology.
