Seven people, including several children from a Louisiana church group, are dead after a fiery crash on I-75.
Several more were transferred to the hospital after the multi-vehicle collision near Gainesville yesterday afternoon. There are reports the victims may have been on the way to Disney World in Orlando.
The Florida Highway Patrol says two tractor-trailers, a passenger van and a mid-size sedan were involved.
The crash occurred about a mile south of Alachua, near Gainesville on Thursday after a big rig and a car collided in the northbound lanes of the highway and went across the guardrail into the path of another big rig and a church van in the southern lanes of the highway.
"Once those semis struck, they both caught fire,” Lt. Patrick Riordan said during a press conference.
The church group was from Avoyelles Parish, and a representative confirmed Friday morning to the Town Talk that its members were involved.
