Eight parishes are included in a State of Emergency declaration issued by Governor John Bel Edwards due to high river levels.

It'll allow the state to respond quickly to any calls from local agencies needing assistance.

Edwards notes that many regions of Louisiana saw near record rainfall in the December and during the early days of January, pushing rivers higher.

Parishes including in the declaration are Beauregard, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Catahoula, Rapides, St. Tammany and Washington.
