A steel-covered walkway is being installed at the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge.

Officials say the walkway will act as a temporary protective structure to shield visitors as the 86-year-old building has disintegrating mortar. The Advocate reports the state doesn't have the $40-60 million needed to make the repairs.

The main entrance is set to reopen in February after being closed for three years due to safety concerns, but most of it will remain barricaded.
