Good Samaritans are being credited with rescuing the driver of an SUV after the vehicle was hit by a red-light runner and pushed into a drainage canal in Metairie.
It happened yesterday morning at the intersection of Transcontinental and West Metairie.
The driver is expected to be okay, but the accident has renewed calls for something to be done to improve safety on roadways where the canals run parallel to the roadway.
Options like guardrails or covering the canals are considered too expensive.
