All but one person on a 27-member advisory panel voted yesterday in support of Governor Edward's proposal on public schools.

The only "no" vote came from Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White. He gave the plan a thumbs-down, citing as he did to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, the lack of additional funding for early childhood education.

The governor's proposal, that will now go to the state Board of Education for consideration, includes a $1,000 pay hike for teachers and a $500 increase for support staff.
