U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana says he plans to meet with HUD Secretary Ben Carson this week about foot-dragging by the agency that's delaying federal flood relief grants to thousands in the state.
Up until last October, property owners couldn't apply for both SBA loans and federal disaster dollars because it was deemed a duplication of federal benefits.
Though Congress changed the law last fall, HUD has failed to issue the legal guidance to allow both to be paid out, prompting Cassidy's decision to intervene and two homeowner-victims of the August 2016 floods in the Baton Rouge area to sue HUD yesterday.
